Opera Saratoga, formerly Lake George Opera, began with a production of Die Fledermaus at the Diamond Point Theatre on July 5, 1962, playing to an audience of 230. The Company now calls Saratoga Springs, New York home and performs for more than 25,000 people annually during the Summer Festival, as well as through community engagement programs year-round. The 2017 Summer Festival, under the leadership of Artistic and General Director Lawrence Edelson, will feature 3 different productions: Falstaff, Zémire et Azor (Beauty and the Beast), and The Cradle Will Rock; as well as a wide variety of concerts at diverse venues unique to the region.
As part of the Lighting department, the electric’s apprentice will play a large role in both the success of the 2017 Summer Festival, as well as the organization’s long-term success and enhancement the quality of productions presented by the company. He/she must have the following skills and experience:
Basic knowledge of electricity and how it applies to theatrical lighting
Experience in both hang and focus of theatrical lighting equipment
Ability to read a light plot
Ability to safely lift 60+ pounds.
Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment
Driver’s License required
Participating in Load-in and focus of all lighting for each production
Take part in all Lighting change-overs
Keeping all work areas clean and promoting a safe working environment
Being a part of the run crew as needed for each production
COMPENSATION AND HOUSING
Competitive compensation based on experience. Housing during the Summer Residency period is provided. (Residency May 28th to July 20th, 2017)
