The National Endowment for the Arts is a public agency dedicated to supporting excellence in the arts, both new and established; bringing the arts to all Americans; and providing leadership in arts education. Established by Congress in 1965 as an independent agency of the federal government, the Endowment is the nation's largest annual funder of the arts, bringing great art to all 50 states, including rural areas, inner cities, and military bases.

Since its inception in 1963 under the auspices of the Walker Art Center, The Minnesota Opera has attracted international attention for its performances of new operas and innovative productions of masterworks. The Minnesota Opera is now the 16th largest opera company in the nation, with an annual budget of almost $7 million. On the Minnestoa Opera stage, talented national and internationally known artists are brought together to create productions of the highest artistic integrity, emphasizing the balance and total integration of theatrical and musical values. |

Founded in 1976, Boston Lyric Opera is dedicated to providing audiences with fully staged, high quality productions of varied repertoire featuring some of the world's most exciting young singers, conductors, directors and designers. The Company's mainstage productions attract international media and audience. The Company made history in September 2002 when Carmen on the Common played to 140,000 people in two evenings. Boston Lyric Opera's educational and community programs division, Opera New England, brings opera to 30,000 young people each year, and its broadcasts on WGBH radio reach some 75,000 listeners throughout New England. Adult programs include previews, lectures and educational materials. |
