Hallmarks of OPERA America's Services

OPERA America publishes both print and online newsletters and bulletins. These include Opera America Magazine, addressing opera company news, issues in the field, repertoire, and updates on OPERA America programs and activities, and several membership directories to facilitate communications.
Authoritative Knowledge
OPERA America has established itself as the authoritative source for information on the opera field. Its Information Service collects, analyzes, and disseminates data on the opera industry in North America, including performance activity and financial trends. Special research projects focus on specific issues, such as public perception of opera. Consulting services give member companies direct access to expert faculty in a variety of subjects (board development, marketing, fundraising, education, and more).
Opera's Advocate
OPERA America works to raise the profile of opera across the country through formal programs such as the Campaign for Opera Awareness, as well as advocating for the opera field with national funders. See the case for federal funding we have prepared at The Importance of Federal Funding for the Arts.
OPERA America has been a leader in encouraging new works for more than two decades. Several special initiatives beginning with Opera for the 80s and Beyond approached the development of new work. Today, The Opera Fund makes grants from an endowment to encourage the creation, presentation, and enjoyment of new works.
OPERA America recognizes that professional development for artists, administrators, and technical theater professionals is essential for the health of the field. Workshops (singers, composers/librettists, and technical professionals), the annual conference, and regional programs engage individuals with OPERA America and the field.
OPERA America takes a leadership role in working with other performing arts organizations for conducting research, sharing information, and joint advocacy for the arts in American society.
As part of its continuing service to the field of opera, OPERA America has developed a number of programs and services that can be implemented at the local level.
