Description: The opera unfolds the adventurous life of the castrato singer Farinelli. It explores the role of an outsider-- as artist, as castrato-- in human society. It asks from what sources the most sublime art springs and what music (art) can do (or not do) in a world going mad. The subject and treatment are very theatrical, using a rapid sequence of scenes, flashbacks, and simultaneous actions.
