| Description: |
Lady Neville, a widow of charm, wealth and determination, decides to invite Death to her final grand ball. By passing the message through the mother of a dying child, Lady Neville insures that message will be received. It is received and to everyone’s surprise, Death accepts. In the second act, Death’s arrival is anticipated and as Midnight passes and he has not shown up, Lady Neville fears a great and humiliating fiasco. Death arrives late, having come from far away. As dawn nears, the guests beg death to stay, becoming human permanently. Death agrees, but only if someone else takes on the role. There are no volunteers, but Death chooses a replacement.ciourtesy of Carl Fischer, Inc.
