Filled with twists and turns, The Thief of Love is a contemporary love story set in a mythical kingdom of ancient India. Vidya, Princess of Knowledge, is beautiful and brilliant and can’t find a man who is her equal. Sundar, Prince of Beauty, is a wealthy game player who tries to win her through deceit and disguise. They both must conquer their pride and arrogance before true love can prevail. Based on the classic 18th century Bengali court tale as told by Bharatchandra, Silver’s libretto draws on many sources including Indian erotic poetry, Sikh prayer mantras, and the works of Rabindranath Tagore.
