The Cultural Data Project (formerly the Professional Opera Survey)

OPERA America is going paperless!
The deadline to complete the surveys is May 31, 2010.

We are very pleased to announce that OPERA America has contracted the Cultural Data Project (CDP) to create an online version of the Professional Opera Survey, and the 2008-2009 Survey Form is now live.

OPERA America professional company members will now complete the CDP's standardized online form for arts and cultural organizations, followed by a few additional sections of opera-specific questions, developed by OPERA America.

CDP Forms & Surveys
Examples of the CDP forms:
CDP Data Profile
Opera Survey Long Form
Opera Survey Short Form

Examples of the benchmarking survey forms:
Development Survey
Education Survey
Marketing & PR Survey
This new online tool will enable your organization to:
  • Instantly produce a variety of reports designed to help increase management capacity, identify strengths and challenges, and inform decision-making;
  • Empower your research and advocacy staff with information to make the case for arts and culture;
  • Compare itself to financially-similar organizations throughout the nonprofit world; and
  • Track trends and benchmark progress.

OPERA America members in CDP states (California, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania) can use the CDP as one part of their grant applications to participating funders. As others states adopt the CDP, more and more member organizations will share this benefit.

In June, at the 2010 Opera Conference in Los Angeles, we will hold a session once again demonstrating the ways this new online management tool can deliver added value to members.

Please read these instructions, which contain more detailed information about the CDP Data Profile; Opera Survey; and Development, Marketing and Education Benchmarking surveys.
