Reports to:  Chorus Master

Important Staff Relationships:  Music Director; Artistic Administrator; Head of Music Staff; Stage Management

Central Role: Assist the Chorus Master in preparing the chorus for all productions, assist in chorus related administrative duties, and assist the music staff in rehearsals and performances as needed.   

 

Responsibilities:

Artistic:

  • Assist Chorus Master (CM) in preparing chorus for all productions as assigned
  • Learn and prepare all chorus music, and be prepared to lead a rehearsal, sectional rehearsal, or warm-up as needed
  • Attend all chorus rehearsals and performances (including all music, staging, and onstage rehearsals); attend all children’s chorus music rehearsals as assigned
  • Attend orchestra rehearsals as available
  • Assist with musical duties in the theatre including but limited to taking notes from the conductor or chorus master, taking balance notes in orchestra rehearsals, and assisting with backstage conducting as needed
  • When covering a rehearsal in the absence of the CM, serve as liaison to director, assistant director, conductor, and stage management
  • Other duties as assigned by the CM, Head of Music Staff, or Artistic Administrator

 Administrative:

  • Assist CM in preparing and managing sign-in sheets for each production
  • Assist CM in preparing payroll daily summaries and communicating payroll information to the accounting department
  • Assist with annual chorus auditions and reauditions, including reviewing applications, scheduling auditions, and assisting in auditions as needed
  • Plan seating charts for chorus rehearsals, assist with chorus divisi
  • Assist with chorus contracting, including generating, sending, and tracking chorus contracts
  • Other administrative duties as assigned

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Music Degree required
  • Choral conducting experience required
  • Opera experience desirable 
  • Experience in an arts administration setting preferred
