The Shivaree
Composer: John Beckwith
Librettist: James Reaney
Premiere Date: Not available.
Description: A young woman has agreed to marry an older man because the young man she loves has been reluctant to confess his love. Her wedding brings him to his senses and to declarations of love about the same time his local friends are making plans for the shivaree.

Through a variety of minor hoazed and, eventually, a mild example of physical violence, the bride is prepared to forget her vows as she elopes with her lover. Fortunately, in true fairy-tale fashion, other circumstances result in a happy ending.
