Mary Compton
Composer: Dean Riggin
Librettist: Dean Riggin
Premiere Date: Not available.
Description: Mary Compton is a dark satire about the incidents surrounding the first woman firefighter hired in a small western U.S. city in the mid-1980s. Her hiring is politically motivated. When Mary comes up against the powers-that-be in a scandal over the death of a Native American in a fire, those same people who brought her to the fire service, now seek to neutralize her, a process which is abetted by Mary's own fickle sense of loyalty. She eventually meets her end through the combination of intrigues against her and her own hauteur. Old-boy politics triumphs once again.
