Cymbeline
Composer: Christopher Berg
Librettist: Christopher Berg
Premiere Date: Not available.
Description: Cymbeline, King of Britain, has banished the husband of his daughter, Imogen. Her stepmother, the Queen, not knowing her married status, tries to force her son on Imogen in order to gain the succession to the crown. The exiled husband, Posthumus Leonatus, is lured by the Italian Iachimo into a wager against Imogen's virtue. Thinking the wager lost, Posthumus orders Imogen killed. The working out of these elements—as well as an equally important plot that reunites Cymbeline with his two purloined sons—provides the fascination in an unusually theatrical libretto.
