Opera Theatre of Saint Louis (OTSL), an internationally acclaimed arts organization, seeks an Executive Assistant to the General Director. This position represents an ideal opportunity for a motivated and highly organized professional who is either an experienced executive assistant or a candidate wishing to pursue a career in arts administration, marketing, or fundraising.

OTSL is one of the leading American opera companies, known for a spring festival during the months of May and June of inventive new productions, sung in English, featuring the finest American singers and accompanied by members of the St. Louis Symphony. In addition to presenting innovative interpretation of classics, OTSL is also committed to premiering new and relevant operas by prominent composers; since its inaugural season in 1976, 27 operas have premiered at Opera Theatre. Opera Theatre also has a long tradition of discovering and promoting the careers of the finest operatic artists of the current generation and OTSL’s competitive young artist programs foster the next generation of emerging American singers. While the festival season only lasts six weeks, Opera Theatre works tirelessly to remain present in the St. Louis community year-round. In 2018, Opera Theatre serve more than 40,000 individuals through both main stage productions and year-round education and community engagement programming.

Opera Theatre seeks a professional with exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and writing skills. Responsibilities include a variety of writing projects, including correspondence with board members, donors, and subscribers; preparation of remarks and materials for speaking engagements; managing the General Director’s calendar, including scheduling meetings with staff, donors, and board members; tracking expenses and managing financial paperwork; partnering with the development department on donor cultivation; assisting General Director with preparation and coordination of artist welcome gifts; managing travel arrangements for the General Director and visiting VIPs; managing the seasonal administrative internship program and coordinating the work study student program; general clerical tasks such as filing and mailings.

 

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have:

  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills;
  • Extraordinary attention to detail;
  • The ability to assimilate information quickly and work independently;
  • Creative and efficient problem solving skills;
  • Skill in managing projects with overlapping deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
  • Excellent ability to prioritize and organize tasks;
  • Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheets;
  • Familiarity with the arts and the non-profit sector and an interest in opera.
