PURPOSE:

  •  To support efforts to grow new audiences in the Bay Area and drive loyalty through ticket programs, offers and group events  

EDUCATION: 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (preferred) or equivalent work experience

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum three (3) years' experience in sales, marketing and/or event planning

PREREQUISITE SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of client prospecting, audience targeting, event planning and basic marketing principles
  • Familiarity with opera/performing arts preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, Photoshop and InDesign a plus
  • Proficiency in HTML; Wordfly or similar email platforms
  • Familiarity with CRM; Tessitura preferred
  • Preferred knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style or Associated Press style guides
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and problem solve with multiple internal and external constituencies
  • Ability to brainstorm and research potential contacts and programs
  • Schedule flexibility and willingness to work some nights and weekends for events and performance duty as needed
  • Ability to work independently; prioritize tasks; and exercise good judgment and initiative
  • Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities successfully; meet firm deadlines
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
  • Works well in a team setting
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills including the ability to interact with artists, staff, vendors, the public and volunteers in an effective, professional, confidential and tactful manner
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Must perform the functions of the position in a safe manner
  • Attend and represent the Marketing Department at performances, concerts, and events with an eye to increased patron engagement and retention
  • Maintain high standards of professional conduct and appearance

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

GROUP SALES/NEW AUDIENCES:

  • Initiates outbound sales and promotional offers for a broad range of Opera goers and new audiences including but not limited to alumni and professional organizations, corporations, schools, businesses and other organizations
  • Supports Manager of New Audiences and Engagement in building and maintaining database of external sales contacts
  • Researches and identifies new audience groups and group sales prospects
  • Creates and manages event for groups to engage them on a deeper level with the Opera
  • Deepens corporate single-ticket promotions, collaborating with Manager of New Audiences and Engagement
  • With Manager of New Audiences and Engagement, establishes and coordinates new sales programs targeting “influencers” and “evangelists” (those who share their love of opera with large groups)
  • In collaboration with Manager of New Audiences and Engagement, executes strategies for post-event retention and up-sell to new patrons
  • Supports Manager of New Audiences and Engagement in building and distributing discount offers to meet attendance goals

EVENT COORDINATION:

  • Executes project and day-of-event onsite coordination for audience development events (AT&T Park simulcast, Opera in the Park, Open House, Pop Ups) in collaboration with the Marketing Department
  • Works with Grahic Designer and Web and Email Manager to execute email campaigns, print collateral and electronic media production schedules for audience development and BRAVO! CLUB events
  • Responsible for volunteer management and overall marketing work-flow at events
  • Creates and manages pre-performance receptions for Group Sales, in conjunction with Manager of New Audiences and Engagement, Events Teams (as applicable) and vendors, including War Memorial Opera House caterer
  • Executes project and day-of-event onsite coordination support for BRAVO! CLUB events and other patron events, in coordination with the Events Team (as applicable)
  • Coordinate with staff members of other departments for event support and logistics (i.e. War Memorial Opera House caterer, Events Team, Production, Sound, Rehearsal, Artistic, Front of House, Box Office, venues and vendors etc)

BRAVO! CLUB:

  • Works with Manager of New Audiences and Engagement to promote BRAVO! CLUB single ticket offers
  • Works with Manager of New Audiences and Engagement to support the creation of email campaigns, lists, content and collateral related to BRAVO! CLUB and its events
  • Collaborates with Manager of New Audiences and Engagement, Social Media team and BRAVO! CLUB Board members to manage BRAVO! CLUB social media accounts
  • Work with the Events Team, Marketing Team and the BRAVO! CLUB Board to support the planning and tickets sales efforts of the annual BRAVO! CLUB Gala

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:

  • Implements promotional offers to support any non-mainstage (e.g., Pop Up, Opera Lab, Atrium Theater) sales goals
  • Works with Creative team to create marketing collateral and brand elements in support of non-mainstage events, Group Sales, New Audiences and BRAVO! CLUB print and electronic materials
  • Attend evening and/or weekend performances or events as requested to perform essential job functions
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned
