Director of Marketing

Pacific Opera Victoria is seeking a Director of Marketing and Communications with a minimum of 5 years of experience in performing arts marketing or related field. S/he shall be responsible for the advancement of strategic marketing, communications and audience development plans, and oversee the implementation of strategies to maximize sales goals and attendance targets for all public programs. The Director will supervise all marketing and communications activities including campaigns, advertising, public relations, and sales functions. S/he will be responsible for administering audience development, market research and customer experience initiatives.

Reporting to the CEO and participating as a key member of the senior management team, the Director of Marketing and Communications will be a diplomatic leader, enthusiastic collaborator, and a capable project manager with the ability to inspire a high-performance team of staff and contractors. The successful candidate will have demonstrated success with the development and implementation of digital marketing strategies, and demonstrate a commitment to reaching new audiences.

Marketing and Communications Responsibilities
● Refine marketing and communications strategies to build audiences
● Develop customized marketing plans for both opera and community engagement programs
● Negotiate media placement and buying, print and marketing sponsorships and partnerships
● Monitor sales data and marketing intelligence tools to measure effectiveness of campaigns
● Develop marketing strategies for all channels including public, direct mail, telemarketing, social media, web, radio and television advertising
● Develop key messages for communications, media briefs, events, and press releases
● Leverage new visual identity and intensify brand awareness and develop civic pride
● Supervise public and media relations to generate regional interest and media coverage
● Develop content strategies for multiple platforms including press, email and social media
campaigns; newsletters, and website
● Create, maintain and implement digital marketing and social media content and calendars
● Oversee, manage and provide ongoing evaluation of digital channels and social media accounts
● Manage, monitor and update website content based on performance and evaluation

Sales and Customer Service
● Create balanced marketing budget plans, set ticket prices and forecast revenues
● Establish attendance goals and sales targets
● Apply strategic promotions, discounts and dynamic pricing strategies
● Ensure high customer service standards and enhancements to the customer experience

Personnel Management
● Manage internal supports including: supervising box office staff, collaborating with community
engagement and fundraising staff, coordinating with website manager and copywriter
● Manage external agencies and vendors including: creative, graphic design, printers, public
relations, telemarketing, and box office data administrator
● Establish productive and collaborative working relationships with all staff, contractors and
community stakeholders, inspiring results and supporting organizational goals

Audience Development
● Cultivate opportunities for audience development
● Invite an increasingly diverse audience to participate in our programs and performances
● Conduct regular audience and market research and develop customer segmentation strategies

Competencies and Qualifications
The successful candidate will be a highly collaborative team player who effectively communicates internally and externally. S/he will demonstrate the ability to organize and motivate others to accomplish goals while building trust, demonstrate integrity, inspire active participation among a variety of stakeholders, including staff, contractors and volunteers. S/he will have a well-developed aesthetic sense, a respect for artists and designers, and proven capacity for working with creative collaborators. S/he is a curious professional, keenly interested in pursuing best practices in research and data analysis to inform marketing strategies. The ideal candidate will have familiarity with the classical arts and music, and a demonstrated interest in opera. S/he will be an enthusiastic individual with a proven track record of success.

The successful candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in marketing,
communications or arts administration, and a minimum 5 years of experience in performing arts
marketing or related field. The successful candidate will be a proficient user of MS Office, and an enthusiastic user of CRM systems, with an understanding and familiarity with current digital and social media channels, a working knowledge of Wordpress and basic understanding of SEO, Google Analytics and web best practices.

Pacific Opera Victoria provides an industry competitive salary with benefits. The position requires some work on evenings and weekends. Start date is August 2019.
