Marketing Manager Job Description


Type of Employment: Salaried (Full-time, exempt, comprehensive health benefits, paid-vacation, retirement plan)

 

The Orchestra:

Now celebrating its 25th Anniversary season, the Gulf Coast Symphony (GCS) is one of the most dynamic and innovative community orchestras in the United States. Recognized for its high-quality symphonic performances and its history of active community engagement and commitment to arts education, the primary goal of the Gulf Coast Symphony to Create Community through Music.  Professionally managed and led, it produces fourteen to sixteen concerts each season in the premiere performing arts venue in Lee County, Florida, the Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall, in addition to numerous educational outreach events, outdoor concerts, chamber music concerts and other activities each year. GCS also runs MusicWorks! an after-school El Sistema program.  The concert season includes one fully-staged classic American musical, two Nutcracker performances, and one full opera production. The GCS is committed to performing a broad variety of concerts and creating a diverse, innovative and balanced program of performances, events, community and education projects which reaches the widest possible public, year round. The organization has a current annual budget of $2.1 million dollars. GCS just launched a new planned giving campaign.

 

Manages: Interns & Core Symphony Volunteers

 

Important Relationships: Music & Executive Director; Development Manager; Patron Services Manager, Board President; Board Committee Chairs

 

Central Role: To work with the GCS leadership team and the Music & Executive Director to develop a strategic advertising, direct marketing, and online marketing campaign, as well as lead the grassroots sales efforts of the Gulf Coast Symphony in the areas of subscriptions, single tickets and group sales. Build, maintain, and manage the reputation and brand of the Gulf Coast Symphony.  Position includes assisting with concerts and special events.


Primary Responsibilities:


Advertising, Marketing & Promotion

  • Collaborate w/management team for the creation and implementation of comprehensive Strategic Marketing Plan, adhering to the established budget.
  • Coordinate media buys and project management for radio, tv, digital, and print advertising.
  • Maintain all list databases and mail house lists, and database clean-up, as necessary.
  • Work with graphic design firm to complete season graphic designs incl. season brochure, postcard, print ads, special event invitations, and digital graphics.
  • Serve as project manager for direct mail pieces, collaborating w/designers, print firms, and direct mail house.
  • Develop creative promotions with community partners to drive sales.
  • Oversee sale and placement of print ads in season program book.
  • Complete in-house graphic design projects including program books, fundraising events, etc.
  • Manage GCS website including content creation and maintenance
  • Oversee digital media strategy.
  • Coordinate archiving of all marketing materials.

 

Public Relations

  • Develop and implement strategic public relations plan in collaboration w/management team.
  • Write and edit press releases, newsletters, and articles.
  • Speak at presentations, radio and TV interviews or meetings, in collaboration w/management team.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with the media, including local and national newspapers, magazines, radio and television.
  • Maintain a clipping file of all relevant PR and articles.
  • Coordinate with concert venue prior to show to ensure marketing table setup, merchandise sales, etc.
  • Oversee GCS Community Engagement Programs and Educational Initiatives, in collaboration with volunteer musician community program leader.

Requirements:    

  • The ideal candidate will be strongly motivated; a self-starter; energetic and flexible; able to work in a fast-paced environment and maximize resources; a team player and leader; extremely creative; and highly analytical.
  • Bachelors or advanced degree and at least five years’ experience in a marketing or communications capacity, with a performing arts organization strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written) with great attention to detail.
  • Evening/weekend performance and special event duty is required.
  • Database management background helpful. (GCS uses Salesforce as its CRM; TRGArts provides our list management.)
  • Comfort and capability with basic website management and social media. (Wordpress; Twitter; Facebook, Instagram etc.)
  • Microsoft Office competency required.
  • Knowledge of video production and creative design (Adobe CS6 suite) extremely helpful.
  • Knowledge of the arts, theater and/or symphonic music extremely helpful.
