Heartbeat Opera grows vivid theatrical worlds through revelatory adaptations, radical rearrangements, and ingenious design. Through an inquisitive collaborative process with a diverse community of artists, we break down traditional barriers to reimagine opera for artists and audiences of the twenty-first century.

 

The Position: The Development Manager of Heartbeat Opera, reporting to the Managing Director, will operate in a part-time capacity, to support and execute Heartbeat Opera’s development strategy. Specific tasks and responsibilities include but are not limited to: - Execute annual fundraising program; - Assist in planning fundraising events; - Manage and write grants; - Manage donor data in Heartbeat’s Little Green Light account; - Generate tax receipts and write thank you notes for donors; - Provide monthly donation reports; - Attend performances and donor cultivation events; - Cultivate supporters in writing, on the phone, and at events; - Support the Co-Artistic Directors and Managing Director in all matters relating to fundraising, including donor follow-up; - Be a vocal representative and advocate for Heartbeat Opera to the global community of Heartbeat’s audience members, funders, and strategic partners.

 

Candidate Profile: The ideal candidate will be an ambitious and energetic collaborator who combines a passion for the performing arts with relevant experience in not-for-profit arts organizations. To apply, s/he must: - Have a BA and experience in development and fundraising; - Possess strong organization, communication and interpersonal skills; - Have excellent bookkeeping skills; - Be creative and self-motivated while attentive to the overall vision and direction provided by the Co-Artistic - Directors and Managing Director. The preferred candidate would also: - Have experience writing and applying for grants; - Be fluent in Google Suite; - Be fluent in Little Green Light; - Have comfort with dynamic, startup environments; - Love music, theater, and opera. Schedule: Part time, ~20hrs per week. Currently, Heartbeat produces 3 full productions per season (September to June) plus 2-4 special events. The Development Manager must reside in NYC full time and be available to meet in person regularly at our Chelsea office. During weeks surrounding our shows and events (3-4 weeks per year), workload may increase to 30 hours per week. Start date is as soon as possible. The starting Salary range for this role is $18000-20000 per annum based on a part-time schedule.
