Heartbeat Opera, “a categorically imaginative company,” (New Yorker) and “one of the most agile and dynamic companies on New York's indie opera scene,” (Opera News) is looking for an ASSISTANT MUSIC DIRECTOR/ORCHESTRA MANAGER/COPYIST for our upcoming production of Weber’s DER FREISCHÜTZ, newly arranged and music directed by Daniel Schlosberg. We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about opera and excited to be part of reimagining classic works for 21st century audiences.


Production dates: November 2, 2019 - December 15, 2019

Location: Baruch Performing Arts Center, NYC

Fee = $1000 inclusive


Responsibilities include:  

- Attend all rehearsals and take notes for Music Director. 

- Attend all technical rehearsals, opening night, and strike.

- Lead secondary rehearsals, and choral brush-ups and warm-ups, as needed.

- Track score changes of new arrangement in Sibelius during rehearsals.

- Input vocal lines and other music in Sibelius as necessary. Proofread score and parts as necessary.

- Organize library of scores/parts for cast, chorus, and orchestra.

- Manage orchestra schedules and personnel.

- Coordinate and lead orchestra set-up, and rental and transportation of instruments.


Skills required:

-Fully fluent in Sibelius (music notation software)

-Conducting experience, preferably with singers

-Experience leading rehearsals with chorus and soloists

-Detail-oriented and organized

-Keyboard proficiency to level of opera vocal scores highly encouraged

-Knowledge of German highly encouraged
