Job Title:              Stage Manager

Reports To:         Technical and Production Director

Summary

The Stage Manager manages all aspects of HGO performance activities for assigned productions.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages and attends as necessary all rehearsals, lighting sessions, technical sessions, and performances for assigned productions.
  • Plans and supervises all rehearsal and performances for assigned shows: supervising and directing backstage staff and members of the stage management team, monitoring hours and breaks for members of multiple unions, providing cues for all technical elements (lighting, sound, moving scenery), gathering and disseminating production notes during rehearsals and performances, and overseeing rehearsal room safety and safe practices.
  • Coordinates rehearsal and technical schedules as they pertain to assigned productions.
  • Manages the archiving of pertinent stage management documentation for assigned productions.
  • Maintains inventory of stage management and rehearsal room materials and supplies.

 

 

Other Duties

Administrative support for the Technical Department as needed.

 

Essential Job Requirements

Bachelor of Arts degree in theatre and three years experience as a stage manager or five years experience as a stage manager.  Must read music fluently.  Excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.  Must be able to manage multiple tasks and projects.  PC proficiency and spreadsheet applications experience – Word and Excel preferred.  Available for evening and weekend work.  Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.  Ability to speak smoothly and cohesively in front of an audience.

 

Special Job Characteristics

Candidate must be highly motivated self-starter with strong organizational skills. Must be a team player.  Requires strong written/verbal communication.  Knowledge of, or familiarity with technical, wardrobe, lighting, wig and make-up areas in opera a plus.
