Donor Relations Manager

The Donor Relations Manager is responsible for significantly growing and expanding Kentucky Opera’s portfolio of individual annual and major donors, working with donors to achieve their philanthropic objectives, and contributing to meeting the needs of Kentucky Opera’s productions and programs. The Donor Relations Manager works closely with and reports to the Director of Development.

Responsibilities
The Donor Relations Manager works on individual fundraising efforts for annual operating support and special projects; solicits and stewards a portfolio of up to 30 donors and 75 prospects; and collaborates with Marketing to identifying opportunities to inspire giving.

  • Manage a portfolio of up to 105 individuals who are current or prospective major donors, who give $500 - $2,500 or more annually
  • Research prospects, including in-person meetings
  • Plan and execute engagement and stewardship strategies; includes phone calls, mailings, email, and donor events
  • Solicit gifts or support board members and/or senior staff in solicitations
  • Coordinate VIP and donor events
  • Manage elements of annual fundraising events
  • Set and implement strategy for annual giving, including a robust calendar for engagement,
    stewardship, and solicitation
  • Manage two year-end direct mail campaigns (calendar year and fiscal year)
  • With Director of Development and Marketing & Communications Associate, create 2-3 impact reports annually
  • Grow the list of prospective donors and identify which donors should move into the pool of current and prospective major donors
  • Monitor progress toward achieving individual income goals
  • Set and implement strategy to grow monthly donor pool
  • Implement organizational best practices for tracking donor information in Tessitura
  • Support other departmental initiatives as needed, including corporate and family foundation fundraising
  • Attend all events and performances (Note: involves working nights and weekends)
  • Work with Director of Development to identify Board candidates
  • Serve as organizational liaison to Kentucky Opera’s Young Professional Opera Patrons (YPOP) and Guild
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
The ideal candidate is an excellent verbal and written communicator, dynamic, adaptable, and can handle multiple projects simultaneously and autonomously. Additional competencies and experience include:

  • Demonstrated success in individual giving
  • 2-5 years direct experience in fundraising
  •  Enthusiasm for Kentucky Opera’s mission
  •  Bachelor’s degree required; prefer major or minor in Arts Administration
  •  Flexibility and enthusiasm to work beyond the regular work week as needed, including evenings and occasional weekends
  •  Ability to be a team player in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with a small, hard-working team
  •  Working knowledge of Tessitura preferred
