Education and Community Engagement Associate

Palm Beach Opera is looking for a an outgoing, energetic, and enthusiastic storyteller with the ability to listen, interact, and connect with patrons, children, staff, media, and vendors.  Dynamic, approachable person, who is personally driven with an entrepreneurial spirit and a willingness to embrace new ideas and technology.  A hands-on approach with the ability to manage projects from inception to execution, as well as work both independently and in a variety of team settings.

This position is part of the Institutional Advancement Department and is responsible for facilitating and acting as prime instructor for the Palm Beach Opera Studio and Story Time Series, as well assisting the Education & Community Engagement Manager in managing and growing programs that engage K-12 students. This position works closely with the Development, Marketing, and Artistic departments, all department volunteers, and works closely with, and reports directly to, the Education & Community Engagement Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Act as facilitator for Palm Beach Opera Studio
  • Act as facilitator for the Story Time Series
  • Assist the Education & Community Engagement Manager by:
    • Acting as primary company contact at Concerts in the Classroom, ANIMA, community concerts, and any other events involving company Bailey Apprentice Artists or Teaching Artists
    • Recruiting and booking programs for K-12 students (housed under the company’s Goldner Center for Children’s Opera Education), including initiatives such as Concerts in the Classroom, Story Time Series, Opera Rehearsal 101, and the company’s annual Children’s Performance and its interactive lobby activities
    • Generating and executing evaluation processes and measures for all K-12 education initiatives
    • Writing and editing curriculum-based K-12 study guides, and contributing to education materials for marketing and development initiatives
  • Write program materials as needed in areas including, but not limited to, information for program participants, website copy, lectures, and resource materials
  • Respond to inquiries into company educational initiatives
  • Network in the educational community to enhance Palm Beach Opera’s relationship with school boards, school administrators, teachers, and other cultural organizations
  • Other responsibilities as needed pertaining to education initiatives

  • Act as primary instructor for the Story Time Series

New Hire Qualifications

Education and Knowledge:       Bachelor's degree required, with advanced degrees a plus. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills a must.  Knowledge of vocal technique and repertoire a plus. Voice teaching experience a plus.  Our ideal candidate will have professional experience in arts education, will be familiar with the Palm Beach County education system, will be a highly organized team player with the ability to multi-task, and have the ability to manage a changing and varied workload. Knowledge of opera is a big plus.

 

Technical Skills:                              Proficiency in standard business software including Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) a must.  Experience with in-house design and email marketing applications a plus.

 

Work Samples:                        Candidates must submit a writing sample or may submit relevant work samples including (but not limited to) any relevant study guides, curricula, etc. 

 

Physical Requirements:          Reliable transportation required.  Flexible schedule that will require working some nights and weekends during season (available to attend rehearsals, performances, special events, etc.).
