Director of Leadership Giving

Cincinnati Opera is seeking an experienced Director of Leadership Giving to provide meaningful engagement, solicitation, and stewardship of patrons in the company’s major gifts and planned giving programs. Reporting to the Director of Patron Engagement, this position serves as a primary frontline fundraiser and patron engagement professional with a focus on securing support from patrons whose annual transactions are $3,500 and above.

Responsibilities include:
• Manage and grow a portfolio of major and planned gift prospects, a process that includes identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities to achieve established goals of increasing membership in the Opera’s major donor and planned giving programs.
• Work with the Director of Patron Engagement to establish, prepare, execute, and monitor annual and multi-year income and expense budgets for the major and planned gifts programs.
• Work with the Director of Patron Engagement to plan and execute integrated major gifts and planned gift strategies to achieve the goals of both special campaigns and multi-year campaigns.
• Work with the Director of Patron Engagement to develop activities for the Board Development committee and participate in strategy for recruiting new trustees and Center Stage Board Associates.
• Manage the Board committees responsible for solicitations of major and planned gifts.
• Work with the Opera’s Creative Group to produce materials related to major and planned giving: solicitation materials, newsletters, website content development, etc.
• Work with the Director of Patron Engagement, the Manager of Individual Giving, and the Data Analyst to develop a systematic, data-driven approach to prospect development.
• Prepare reports and program assessments, including measurable targets for major and planned gifts: number of personal visits, stewardship activities and solicitations made, as well as new commitments and dollars raised.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field from an accredited college or university. Minimum of five years of fundraising experience with at least two years spent in the areas of major gifts and planned giving. In addition to possessing core competences in the development field, prospective candidates must be able to work independently, have a strong work ethic and a high degree of self-motivation, and work well under pressure. They must communicate effectively, exhibit professional integrity, and value and support the mission/vision and strategic direction of the company. Successful candidates will also be adaptable, collaborative, inclusive, respectful, and results-driven.
