Since it was founded in 1970, OPERA America has built a broad and diverse membership base to access the power of collective experience, gather insight and share best practices. Incorporated with only 20 member companies, the organization now includes over 150 Professional Company Members; 300 Associate, Business, Career Service and Educational Producing Affiliate Members; and 1,600 Individual Members.

Southwest Virginia’s only professional opera company, Opera Roanoke presents fully-staged productions and a variety of smaller-scale presentations each year. Resident in Shaftman Performance Hall at Jefferson Center, Opera Roanoke serves a wide geographic area, including the cities of Roanoke, Salem, Lynchburg, Lexington, and Blacksburg, as well as Martinsville and Charlottesville.
