Composer: Patrick Soluri
Composer Bio: PATRICK SOLURI is a New York City based composer who is focused on music for ballet, opera and film/TV. His love of telling stories through music is evident in a large body of work for the stage, screen and concert hall. This includes six commissioned ballet scores performed and commissioned by STAATSBALLETT BERLIN, DANCES PATRELLE, BOWEN McCAULEY DANCE, and CUYAHOGA VALLEY YOUTH BALLET. The most well known works include MADAME X (featuring American Ballet Theater principal dancer Marcelo Gomes); FIRE & AIR with Mr. Soluri conducting the world premiere at The Kennedy Center; FANCY NANCY, based on the popular children’s books; and TO BE CONTINED (Continuum), performed 18 times over two season by Staatsballett Berlin. Additionally, Mr. Soluri is a prolific composer of opera including performances by NEW YORK CITY OPERA as part of ‘VOX Showcasing American Composers.’ The one-act opera EMBEDDED, commissioned by AMERICAN LYRIC THEATER, won the 2013 Frontiers Competition at Fort Worth Opera, and will receive a fully staged world premiere production in March 2014 at Fargo-Moorhead Opera. He is most know for his series of short comic operas ranging from one to twenty minutes in length; many of which have premiered ever year since 2009 at sold-out shows at CARNEGIE HALL with the REMARKABLE THEATER BRIGADE (RTB). With over a half dozen performances, his most performed short opera is the dark comedy FIGARO’s LAST HAGOVER. After numerous performances of it, Fort Worth Opera commissioned a new “Figaro” opera called “Figaro and the Zombie Apocalypse” which will premiere October 12, 2013. Performances of his various short operas in the 2012/13 seasons alone include multiple performances at FORT WORTH OPERA, VIENNE EN VOIX FESTIVAL (France), NEVADA OPERA, CENTER CITY OPERA THEATER, URBAN ARIAS, RTB (at Carnegie Hall), and JUVENTAS ENSEMBLE in Boston. He has also composed several film scores, and hundreds of tracks of music for film & TV including the Emmy winning WONDERPETS, and with Sean Lennon on the film score for ALTER EGOS. He recently composed and produced the music for a film trailer for NCM that will be shown on 19,000 film screens across the US through 2015. His music has also been featured on various shows on TLC, LOGO and DISCOVERY in the US and Europe, including SING IT LAURIE and AMERICAS GOT TALENT.
Librettist: Deborah Brevoort
Librettist Bio: Deborah Brevoort is a playwright and librettist from Alaska who now lives in the New York City area. She is an alumna of New Dramatists, one of the original company members of Perseverance Theatre in Juneau, Alaska and a co-founder of Theatre Without Borders, a group of individual artists dedicated to international theatre exchange. She is best known for her play The Women of Lockerbie, which won the Kennedy Center’s Fund for New American Plays Award and the silver medal in the Onassis International Playwriting Competition. It was produced in London at the Orange Tree, off-Broadway at the New Group and Women’s Project and in Los Angeles at the Actors Gang. It has been produced all over the US and internationally in Scotland, England, Ireland, Japan, Greece, Spain, Poland, Belarus, and Australia, and has been translated into seven languages. Published by Dramatists Play Service and No Passport Press, the play has had over 350 productions to date.
