Jackie O
Composer:Michael Daugherty
Librettist:Wayne Koestenbaum
Synopsis
The opera is a mythical, rather than historical, portrayal of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy. The first act, "The Happening," begins with the widowed Jackie's reentrance into society in 1968. The second act, "The Island" takes place in 1969, after Jackie and Aristotle Onassis' wedding. Through pastiche, collage, and the incorporation of popular cultural references as well as mythical leitmotifs, the opera reimagines the Jackie legend.
