Synopsis
The opera tells the story of Floyd Collins, who became trapped in a cave on January 30, 1925 while exploring an underground cavern in Barren County, KY. Pinned by a fallen rock, he was still able to communicate with the outside world. A cub reporter from the Louisville Courier-Journal climbed down and interviewed Collins, making the trapped man an instant celebrity and drawing as many as 20,000 curiosity seekers to the cave. Collins died after two weeks underground.
