A Water Bird Talk
Composer:Dominick Argento
Librettist:Dominick Argento
Synopsis
A lecturer addresses a ladies' club on the subject of water birds. Gradually, the lecturer reveals that his miserable existence is due to an overbearing, domineering wife. His descriptions of the birds' habits come to act as metaphors for his own horribly henpecked life. Meanwhile his wife is reacting in the wings by coughing, clearing her throat, etc.
