The Wings of Daedalus
Composer:Maurizio Squillante
Librettist:Fabio Squillante and David HaugMike Poulton
Synopsis
The opera is based on the fragments of the original greek myth of Daedalus: the labyrinth, Minisos, and Daedalus' flight to Sicily. The libretto then creates a modern meta-space where the desire of Daedalus transcendence of his human limits is played out in the cyberconnected net of a cyborg who stretches the limits of his human flesh in order to meld with biotechnology into something unexplored and yet to find himself yet again in a net that he has created. The opera employs comtempory art, technology, multimedia, dance, video, live electronics and is all based on the manifold colors of the human voice.
