Synopsis
The opera tells the story of Nancy Randolph of Bizarre Plantation, Virginia, after she and her brother-in-law have been acquitted murdering an infant said to be theirs. Two years later, a disgraced Nancy is banished from Bizarre. She takes work in Connecticut and then New York, where she takes a position as housekeeper at the estate of Gouveneur Morris, hero of the American Revolution. Nancy soon marries Gouveneur, but the scandal continues to haunt her. Once again, Nancy says, "I will survive.
