The Hubble Cantata
Composer:Paola Prestini
Librettist:Royce Vavrek
Synopsis
The Hubble Cantata is an evening length (60 minutes) live musical performance that pushes the boundaries of art and science by combining a cutting-edge Virtual Reality film (Fistful of Stars) by Eliza McNitt with a space-inspired cantata composed by Paola Prestini with libretto by Royce Vavrek. The World Premiere of The Hubble Cantata reached an audience of over 6,000 at the BRIC
Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival in Prospect Park on August 6, 2016.  For the first time ever, Virtual Reality becomes an instrument for space exploration, giving audiences the opportunity to float within photorealistic simulations of the iconic Hubble Telescope imagery that has deepened our understanding of the universe. Fusing together science, art, and technology alongside a 20-piece ensemble, a 100 person choir, and two stars from The Metropolitan Opera all performing live — The Hubble Cantata marks a major milestone in the performing arts.
