Marina a Captive Spirit
Composer:Deborah Drattell
Librettist:Annie Finch
Synopsis
Marina - A Captive Spriti is based on the life and work of legendary twentieth-century Russian poet Marina Tsvetaeva, and is the first opera in the trilogy "Three Mothers." Tsvetaeva's dramatic life, drive by currents of genius, youthful promise, sensual adventure, political persecution and finally exile, insanity, and suicide, lends itself to opera. Her tragic attempt to balance her creative brilliance with her role as a mother resonates profoundly today.
