Associate Company Membership
Organizations that qualify as associate members of OPERA America must conduct business significantly related to the production, creation or enjoyment of opera or music-theater, but not to the same extent as Professional Company Members, such as guilds or other nonprofit organizations. Please refer to the side bar to find out if your organization qualifies as a Professional Member. OPERA America reserves the right to request additional information from prospective associate members to confirm that this is the appropriate level for membership.

  • The Membership Directory, an annual directory with contact information for company, associate, business and educational members, in addition to a listing of individual members.

Access Exclusive Information
  • Access our Production Directory and Career Guide for Opera: online databases available to you to search for sets, props and costumes; to post auditions; and to search contact information for companies, artist managers and educational institutions.
  • Access OPERA America's Information Service for assistance with inquiries, such as casting, funding, information on past productions of a particular opera, peers to contact about commissioning an opera, etc.
  • Network with colleagues and opera company staff at the Annual Conference and regional meetings, including special fundraising, marketing and public relations activities.
Are you an Associate Company Member or a Professional Company Member?
If your organization meets the below criteria, you may be eligible for Professional Company Membership status:

1. Be an independent 501(c)3 corporation or part of a larger 501(c)3 whose repertory includes opera/music-theater and whose primary mission is the enrichment of the community through the production and performance of opera/music-theater.

2. Produce and perform at least one staged or semi-staged work each season, before a paying audience, during the current season and each of the immediately preceding two seasons.

3. Employ paid management of at least one full-time equivalent. FTE: 40hrs/week.

4. Engage and pay professional performers and other artists.

5. Able to provide audited financial statements, a financial review and/or a completed IRS Form 990.

All OPERA America facilities are handicapped accessible. The National Opera Center features ground-level entry with elevators to the venue. All spaces are wheelchair accessible, and modular seating can be arranged to accommodate wheelchair users for all programs and performances.
