Meet the Composer: Jennifer Higdon

Jennifer Higdon discusses formative experiences that influenced her career and her new opera Woman With Eyes Closed, a chamber opera exploring cycles of family trauma and the value of art.

Woman With Eyes Closed earned Opera Philadelphia a 2018 Commissioning Grant. The grant was awarded through OPERA America’s Opera Grants for Female Composers program, which is funded by the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation. Since its inception in 2013, the program has awarded over $1 million to support the development of operas by women.
