STATUS: Non-Exempt, Full-Time,Seasonal during opera season
SALARY: $33+/hour Per CBA with IATSE Local 476 Studio Mechanics
BENEFITS: Per CBA (vacation pay, health, annuity) with IATSE Local 476 Studio Mechanics
START DATE: August 2024 - April 2025 with holiday break

We are searching for seasonal shop staff for the Wigs & Makeup Department. The shop staff must apply artistic expertise along with practical knowledge/experience, to support the vision of the Wig & Makeup Designer in achieving the desired aesthetic of Lyric’s productions. Applicants should be ready with visual portfolio images for interviews. Shop staff positions are available for all or part of the time through the months of August through April.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Construct foundations, and ventilate wigs for Lyric Opera productions
Style and maintain wigs under the guidance of the Wig and Makeup Designer.
Assist in fittings for principals, chorus, and other cast members.
On occasion under direction of the Wig & Makeup Designer, help to pull wigs and facial hair as needed for productions.
Assist in maintaining wig inventory throughout the season.
Organize and participate in shop upkeep.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Strong Ventilating and Wig Construction experience/skill is required.
Cosmetology license is a plus.
Experience in theatrical hair and makeup design.
Experience, creativity and resourcefulness in wig making, mask making, and special effects makeup a plus.
Basic knowledge of period styles pertaining to hair, art and costuming.
Knowledge of art history and opera is useful but not essential.
Ability to understand aesthetic ideas through drawing and visual research materials.
Experience working in a shop environment is a plus but not essential.
Flexible, focused, and well-organized team player.
Ability to work accurately with attention to detail.
WORK CONDITIONS:
Must be able to sit in a chair for extended periods
Hours are mostly 9am-5pm with some extended hours and weekend overtime possibilities per C.B.A. .
Union membership with I.A.T.S.E.Studio Mechanics Local 476 will be offered after hours criteria met.
