Assistant Production Manager


DESCRIPTION

Summary:

Des Moines Metro Opera is a major summer opera festival located in Indianola, IA. The company produces 3-4 new productions each season in a summer repertory schedule, presented within the intimate 467-seat theatre at the Blank Performing Arts Center. Our 53rd season includes Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman, Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen, and Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress.

 

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

The following is the job description for the position of Assistant Production Manager. These duties include but are not limited to:

  • Assist the Director of Production:

    • in the daily scheduling of production events.

    • in ordering seasonal production materials.

    • with the coordination of all events happening on the stage, rehearsal rooms, and shops.

    • enforce all necessary safety, OSHA, and ESTA standards.

    • in organizing the team activities (Welcome BBQ’s etc).

    • in organizing safety training, orientations and with reporting injuries.

    • in providing a positive and championing environment for the staff and interns. 

  • Take production notes and distribute to department heads. Keeping an accurate to-do list

  • Enter and code departmental receipts.

  • Other duties to be performed on an “as-needed” basis determined, this includes duties normally associated with an Assistant Production Manager position

  • Supervise the Production Assistant and the Production Intern

  • As able, teach or assist in some training sessions with the production interns.

Skills and Knowledge

Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

  • University/College Theatre training.

  • 3+ years’ experience in a management / supervisory role at a theatre or opera company and/or 3+ years of Stage Management experience.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • To strongly be a team player with a good attitude and ability to professionally handle stressful situations.

  • Proven ability to lead a team and give direction and motivation.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Work includes periods of sitting at a desk, standing, working in low light, climbing stairs/ladders.

BENEFITS

Pay Range: $1,000 - $1,000 Monthly

Compensation:

·       Starting: $1,00/week during the festival season,

·       Overtime after 50 hours paid at a rate of $24/hour.

·       In-Person, as early as April 28, 2025 and as late as August 1, 2025.

·       Part-time remote work may begin prior to this.

·       This schedule does have some flexibility for the right candidate.
