Orchestra Library Manager
DESCRIPTION
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Manage all operational aspects of the Orchestra Library, including:
Out-season and project portfolio planning for the Orchestra Library in collaboration with the Director of Music Operations and Orchestra Operations Manager.
Establish annual workflow plans and deadlines for project completion.
Develop and implement improved workflow management systems and processes to ensure clear division of duties and maximize efficiency.
Establish and adhere to clear and consistent library policies.
Establish and execute standards for library materials consistent with the expectations of the Music Director and the Director of Music Operations.
Prepare musical scores and parts, including proofreading, editing, bowing, binding, transposing, repairing and photocopying music, for a portfolio of fully-staged mainstage productions and concerts as assigned in coordination with the Director of Music Operations.
Audit personnel requirements and ensure that parts are prepared in a timely manner for all personnel required for all projects.
Distributes parts to musicians prior to rehearsals and performances and collects them afterward.
Attend all reading rehearsals and sitzproben to take library-related notes.
Assemble and prepare orchestra folders as needed for concert programs.
Assist with folder disassembly and prompt return of rental parts to publishers.
Catalogues new scores, orchestra parts and arias.
Document relevant production and musical information for future reference, including pre- and post-performance scanning of all performance materials.
Oversees the care and management of the company’s orchestral music collection.
Answers research and reference questions.
Assist with requests from conductors, concertmaster and music staff regarding music materials for the projects in the assigned portfolio.
Sees to the routing of pertinent information regarding changes in cuts, versions, etc., to the Director of Music Administration and appropriate music staff.
SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
Works closely with the Orchestra Operations Manager and orchestra pit crew.
Keeps track of supplies for office, library work and copier. Finds and orders specialized supplies.
Other job-related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s Degree in Music or equivalent training relative to orchestral music and opera.
Degree in Library Science preferred
EXPERIENCE:
Orchestral music background required.
Minimum 5 years experience as an orchestra librarian required.
Experience as a professional orchestra musician preferred.
Knowledge of Opera repertoire and performance.
Ability to work flexible hours (daytime, evenings, weekends).
Ability to lift 25 pounds regularly.
PREREQUISITE SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:
Strong organizational skills.
Familiarity with orchestra music and parts, instrumentation, ranges, transpositions, and foreign language terms.
Familiarity with Sibelius music printing software.
Capable of producing excellent handwritten music notation.
Must have a working knowledge of US copyright law.
Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and exercise good judgment and take initiative, as well as work as part of a team.
Knowledge of computerized information systems and their applications, including Microsoft Outlook and Office.
Ability to adapt to a fast paced, rapidly changing environment and consistently meet deadlines.
Outstanding interpersonal skills including the ability to interact with all staff in a professional, confidential, timely, and tactful manner.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
Must perform the functions of the position in a safe manner.
BENEFITS
Pay Range: $95,000 - $110,000 Annual
