Missy Mazzoli
Musical America named Missy Mazzoli as its 2022 Composer of the Year and Davóne Tines as its vocalist of the year. The organization also announced its Top 30 Professionals of the Year. Included on the list are Wayne S. Brown, president and CEO of Michigan Opera Theatre; Lawrence Edelson, artistic and general director of American Lyric Theater and Opera Saratoga; Sasha Gutiérrez, soprano and impresario; Cerise Lim Jacobs, executive producer of White Snake Projects; Frank Luzi, vice president of marketing and digital strategy at Opera Philadelphia; Christina Scheppelmann, general director of Seattle Opera; and Tomer Zvulun, general and artistic director of The Atlanta Opera.
Frederick Ballentine
Washington National Opera presented tenor Frederick Ballentine with its 2021 Marian Anderson Vocal Award, which includes a $10,000 cash prize. The award recognizes a young American singer with outstanding promise for a significant career.
Quinn Kelsey
The recipients of this year’s Opera News Awards are mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves, baritone Quinn Kelsey, and soprano Elza van den Heever. They will be feted at a gala in New York City this April.
New Hampshire’s Land and Community Heritage Investment Program selected Opera North’s historic Blow-Me-Down Farm to receive one of 40 grants for preservation and land conservation. The company will receive $75,000.
