Tri-Cities Opera

Tri-Cities Opera has been the cultural centerpiece of the Southern Tier of New York for seventy-five years. Founded in 1949 by Peyton Hibbitt and the late Carmen Savoca, this regional opera company enjoys an exceptional reputation in the opera world for its Resident Artist Training Program, beautiful sets and costumes, and outstanding opera productions. Tri-Cities Opera has been honored by the National Board of Directors of Opera America, has received the President’s Medal from Binghamton University, and has been awarded the prestigious New York State Council on the Arts Governor’s Award. n keeping with the history of our founders, Tri-Cities Opera’s mission is the production of professional opera using the talents of young artists. TCO sets the standard for artistic excellence while enriching, enhancing, engaging & educating our community through the power of live musical storytelling. We accomplish our mission in the following mutually supportive ways: The Resident Artist Program – this postgraduate education program provides talented young singers, selected through a competitive audition process, the opportunity to learn the discipline of opera through performance of leading roles in major productions. Our collaborative relationship with Binghamton University provides auditioned & selected BU students with professional stage experience and preparation. Performances – predominantly serve the Southern Tier of NY & include main-stage productions at the Forum Theater as well as more intimate black-box productions and recitals at the Tri-Cities Opera Center located on Clinton Street in the historic First Ward neighborhood of Binghamton as well as other venues. Opera-Go-Round (OGR) – is the self-supporting educational touring arm of TCO reaching over 17,000 young students with age-appropriate musical programs including one-act operas for children. Programs extend throughout the Southern Tier, meeting NYS arts education standards. OGR is often a child’s first exposure to live musical storytelling.
